Have just finished reading Cake For The Gestapo again and enjoyed it even more second time round! This is an exciting historical novel set during the German occupation of Jersey in WW2, to be read by children and adults alike. Jacqueline King's vivid evocation of the increasingly restricted and dangerous lives that the islanders endured sits comfortably alongside classics such as The Silver Sword, The Machine Gunners and Warhorse. The gang of children, Spinner, Clem, Joe and Ginger form a close bond of friendship and mutual support in their battle for survival against a common enemy, using a mixture of humour, bravery,bravado and humanity. I wish this book had been published when I was teaching WW2 history
