I watched this on Amazon Prime and was so eager to watch it because of all the rave reviews online and on YouTube - even Blue Sattai Maran gave it a positive review. He described it as the same old story presented in a refreshing way. But what an utter disappointment it was.
Except for the first 15 minutes where we learn the origin story of a village and about Bhoota kola and the last 15 minutes, the rest of the movie was interminable. One dimensional supporting characters - the stoic and stubborn forestry officer who's the antagonist, the hero's wastrel group of buffoon friends, the hero's shrieking/beating mother whom we've seen in a 1001 movies , the rogue boozing hero who is loyal to the seemingly benevolent landlord. And don't get me started on the love story - I will not understand how the heroine who was so furious when the hero pinched her waist without her consent one night, fell in love with him the very next day when he helped her get a job. Like seriously?!
Sigh. I really wanted to like this movie but I can't and I don't. I don't understand how and why so many people liked this movie. I can appreciate the cultural aspect of this movie. I just wish the writing had been stronger.
