Endless Love, the best novel Scott Spencer has written is nearly impossible to satisfactorily adapt to the screen.
Brooke Shields who is stunningly beautiful and whose acting was superb in Malle's Pretty Baby, is unable to capture "Jade" fully in this film.
This not the fault of Brooke Shields. Poor directing by Franco Zeffirelli, and most important the adaptation left out key elements to the story: those being communal dropping acid by the Butterfields, Jade's bisexuality, and the reunification of Jade and "David " played beautifully by Martin Hewitt.
This film could have worked had Scott Spencer written the the screenplay.
