9/10, almost perfect, the powerful and refined narrative of the life of locals in a fictitious town in Western Turkiye, war of Gallipoli, the war of Independence and the rise of Ataturk. The scenes of the trench wars of Gallipoli/Canakkale and the regret and cursing of a sinking merchant at the bay of Izmir whilst its liberated from invasion of Greek forces are still fresh in my memory. Well done dear Bernieres.
