I've always enjoyed the History Channel for it's informative documentaries. I'm NOT one for contrived "reality" shows; to me they are largely a waste of time. Not "Oak Island." (BTW, The "Curse" part is largely a misnomer designed to attract a young audience fascinated by the supernatural. This show has very little to do with a/the "curse.")
I happened upon the show a few years ago and found the dialog between the brothers both credible and interesting. The technology applied in their quest, the simple camaraderie of the team, the group brainstorming and the relationships between the various participants attracted me as a regular viewer.
But it's the history that got me hooked. As an amateur historian, I find the occasional artifact finds and the background investigations informative, intelligent, intriguing and adventurous. And I find the skeptical, rational--yet willing--perspective of the brothers a good balance to the sometimes naive wishful thinking of others on the team.
Finally, as someone descended from early emigrants from France to Acadia (Nova Scotia)--mere miles from Oak Island--I am doubly fascinated by the history of the area that is being constantly exposed and presented with archeological and historical precision.
I hope this series continues until it's logical conclusion, whether any "treasure" is found or is not. Either way, it's been a worthwhile journey for me.
THNX, guys, for hours of informative education.
