Robert Duvall wrote, starred in, and bankrolled this personal mission turned movie. Hands down, it is one of the best films ever made. It will pull you in, involve you fully, and linger in the memory for years, decades.

If I were watching this performed live as a play in an intimate venue, it would be very compelling.
As a screen event, I became a bit bored by all the stereotyping and race-messaging that is so common in these times.

There is a feeling of lecturing about racial injustice that feels forced and has become the norm.
