Easy to see why Bukowski revered this author. I am indebted to the bookshop worker who recommended this book to me. Like the characters in Bukowski's books the main character of Ask the Dust is living on the outside of "polite" society amongst the low life of Los Angeles. He is an aspiring author. He has a longing for love but is horribly hindered in this respect by his conflicting views of and often brutal interactions with the girl he is obsessed with.
