This movie was exhausting. I’ve been a major Elvis fan most of my life and knowing that most biopics are never very good, I wasn’t really expecting too much. I like some of Baz’s stuff and knew what his style was but this was just like throwing some glitter onto a garbage fire. You can hardly understand a single word Tom Hanks or Austin Butler are saying and the strange mix of hip hop music and Austin trying desperately to sing like Elvis was wildly distracting. I was happy that they didn’t erase Elvis’s closeness with the black community and actually used a few names of the original writers of songs he covered. But you’ll have a much better time watching any one of Elvis’s actual movies.
