Thoughtful, beautifully crafted and acted film. Nice to see a film with actual character development every once in a while….

Ok, spoiler alerts. So….the positives here are Denzel Washington’s villainous performance (Training Day comes to Ancient Rome), the opening battle scene, and the cinematography. The lowlights are the film’s length and plot lines that are far more caricature than character development. The coliseum battles entertain but we could have done without staging a naval battle in the coliseum with mega Great White Sharks — was needlessly over the top and simply not believable.

I’m a huge Halle Berry fan and her acting as usual was great, but….i gave up on the plot and the cheapened scare tactics.
