IMDB and Google is being review bombed by Fox News viewers simply because they feel threatened that themes outside of the heteronormative genre are being represented in kids media. There’s no sex. There’s no profanity. No vulgar images that would “taint” young minds—just casual mentions of people existing peacefully as themselves. It doesn’t have to be confusing if these conservatives actually put in the effort to explain things to children. An example? Non-binary people. I’ve explained myself to over two classrooms worth of my sister’s students at her school and not once did they ever find it wrong, scary, confusing, or something to judge me for. Maybe it helped that they already knew me as a person that they like. I make sure they’re safe, having fun, and being nice to each other when I visit. So when I introduced myself as non-binary—and that I don’t really feel like a boy or a girl—they didn’t see me any differently. Sure, they ask what bathroom I use. Easy answer: “I feel more comfortable using the girl’s bathroom because that’s the gender I was born as”. If they start asking about if they’re ever going to feel the same way, or go through the same experiences I do, I’ve given this answer almost every time: “You’ll never quite know what will happen in life. You’ll just have to grow up and see for yourself what kind of person you’ll become. But you’re still a kid, so don’t worry too much about it. As long as you be you, that’s enough”. There are resources explaining how shows like these aren’t “brainwashing” children. There are people like me who are more than willing to explain it to people who are simply unaware of how to approach topics like these. But none of that will matter if conservative bigots like Fox News butcher any uprising show even MENTIONING people different than their tunnel minded demographic. I’m personally tired of hating people. There’s so many other things to hate in this world. School shootings, poverty, hate crimes of every kind, and so much more. So excuse me if I find it a bit infuriating that out of all those things, this innocent kids’ show is the one being targeted by adults who are threatened by an alien robot not abiding to earth norms.
