The musical recognition of Arethas definitive hit songs was top notch, and Jennifer Hudson handled that aspect of the film quite well.
However, for the casual Aretha fan, who was looking to learn more about her life, it lacked biographical insight into who Aretha really was, and who the significant characters in her life were, whether they were good or bad, and the role that they played and the impact that they had on her, the recent streaming series where her father was played by Courtney C. Vance gives more personal history.
