It was stupid... in the best possible ways. An excellently stupid mash up of Japanese aesthetic and grindhouse stylization. If you're expecting a serious movie, you're going to be very disappointed. If you're expecting an action film with just the right amount of silliness and storytelling, studded with cameos to mark over, then this is the film for you. An amazing effort by the director!

While everyone is mad that either this is a pointless reboot/quel, or that it is not a carbon copy of the original, I found this to be surprisingly good. The jump scares are unparalleled and actually got me, unlike anything else I've seen in a very, very long time. My feeling is that had this been called anything other than The Grudge, it would be a delighted spook film loved by the masses. If you disregard the Ju-on and original Grudge series', this is worth a watch. Also, it makes the original feel like a made-for-TV tamed down piece of garbage. Sorry Sarah Michelle Gellar.
