I read the book at the age of 15. It was 1957. Far to young to read a book like this. It made on me a devastating impression. For a period I imitated Meursault. Many people do not undestand the book and try to explain the plot. The plot has no importance and merely serves as an instrument to emphasise the absurdity of life. In every word this absurdity is expressed. The reader should read Camus' The Mythe of Sisyfus as well. It deals with suicide. La vie ne vaut etre vecu is the message of both books.
