My Rating: ⭐⭐/5
I had been eagerly anticipating the chance to read this book, but unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype. Despite being promoted as a thrilling novel, it turned out to be rather underwhelming, lacking both suspense and plot twists.
One of the major issues was the pacing, particularly during the FBI interrogation scenes. The storyline dragged considerably as a traumatized victim recounted the events in an overly dramatic manner. There was no sense of urgency from her to assist the FBI in identifying the rescued victims and those who tragically perished. The depiction of the FBI agents was equally problematic, as they seemed to listen passively to the dramatic recounting, akin to children listening to a bedtime story.
Additionally, the premise of twenty-two kidnapped girls living together in a greenhouse, unable to overpower their captor known as "The Gardener," was hard to believe. The Gardener, portrayed as a weak-hearted character, further detracted from the story's credibility.
Overall, the book presented a boring storyline filled with weak characters in an unbelievable setting. It had the potential to be a compelling thriller, but ultimately fell short.
