Midnight Cowboy was a great film with stellar performances by Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman. What amazed me about Hoffman was that he seemed so much older in this film than he did in The Graduate which was released in 1967. Jon Voight was terrific as the naive Joe Buck who travels from Texas to New York to fulfill a dream. He has a belief that no woman will be able to resist him. After arriving in New York, Joe forms an unlikely alliance with Ratzo Rizzo and they end up living hand to mouth in a run down apartment.
In the end, the dream is never realized. The haunting soundtrack and brilliant performances make this well worth watching. What's more, although this film was released in 1969, it is still relevant today. The dreamers like Joe Buck are still irresistibly drawn to cities like New York and Los Angeles.
Hoffman and Voight should have one oscars for their flawless performances.
