I've been waiting to play this game for years, and not going to lie I was a little disappointing. The graphics and designs are great, and it's obvious a lot of care and effort was put into the visuals of this game. However, I feel like a lot of the actual game-play mechanics fall flat. The farming can be very tedious, especially in the beginning, and there's not a lot else to do besides the standard fetch-quests. I was mostly disappointed seeing the environments outside of Badgetown (the main location in the game), as most did not feel as fleshed out as they could have been (save for Port Forward). The non-Badgetown NPCs likewise are very minimal, and even the "main" NPCs in Badgetown are quite flat, stagnant characters. I personally also don't care for much of the dialogue, which uses "quirky" words and phrases in every sentence, to the point where I personally find it annoying and takes me out of the experience of playing the game.
This game gets a significant amount of largely unfair criticism, but it could definitely use some more work and attention to details. When compared to games like Stardew Valley, which handles the above issues significantly better, it looks like Ooblets simply tried to be more ambitious than what the dev team could handle.
Essentially, Ooblets is an incredibly visually appealing with a distinctive style that had a tremendous amount of care and detail put into it, and I wish this level of detail could have been extended to the other elements of the game (namely game-play and environments). The storyline, although simple, is also charming and highlights an important message, though I wish this also could have been developed further.
