Friday Books and Capeheart commented on the border crisis. He was asked what the problem was. He deadpanned “Jimmy Carter.” Then went on talking. I’m huh?
I’m just disappointed as I think David Brooks is enlightening and brings some edification to all of us on the news of the week.
What is this Jimmy Carter deadpan? Jimmy Carter revived human rights in the world and today, 45 years later it is central to UN discussions. He began the Mideast peace process with Egypt and Israel and 45 years later the world and Middle East are still reaping benefits with recent peace accords with Israel by the UAE and Bahrain. The Camp David’s accords is a heck of a good backdrop to the Arab Spring, along with President Obama’s speech at the University of Cairo.
Jimmy Carter’s administration established the Dept of Education. He was years ahead of everyone in recognizing energy conservation and started the Dept of Energy. Today 45 years later we are reaping the benefits - have moved light years ahead with establishing clean and re-newable energy sources. Yes, he did try to stop wasteful pet pork barrel projects like dams and Congress then dissed him forever. But he tried. He returned to Plains Georgia bankrupt because he was honest and put his business’s in a blind trust. The moral leadership was just amazing.
And you deadpan Jimmy Carter in a conversation about government competency. David, I think you are a victim of that false narrative about Jimmy Carter. Perhaps you could be a bit more independent, reflective rather than going with that mischaractarization.
However, this is one of the few times I recognized unprofessionalism in your comments. Aime Casavant
