Great film but not that memorable. 24 hours later and I find myself most moved by the acting of Janelle Monae and Leslie Odom. I found Cynthia Erivo’s work very flat and was only felt moved during the scene when she discovered her husband’s status after going back to free him. I heard her British accent come through occasionally. She did well but in my soul I fell there was something inherently missing and I was not completely convinced or moved by her acting though technically sound but I could see and appreciate her effort. Didn’t learn anything historically that I didn’t already know. Glad film was made and that it focused on freedom and emphasized the idiocy, mental illness and egregious behavior associated with slavery, particularly white folks who steal human beings and then wanna get mad when they want to leave.
