Very disappointed in this series. The special effects are great but the drama is a little much, there is very little humor. It's obvious they are putting women center stage which doesn't bother me, I would just prefer it wasn't so glaringly obvious.
Honestly my biggest problem is how it doesn't sync well with the star trek universe. Don't get me wrong, it does sync loosely but they stretch it to its limit. I was particularly disappointed with how they portrayed Spock.
Lastly, with the exception of "Picard" it's the only series that I can think of that follows a single person and not a crew. At least in "Picard" we expected that. Everything is about Burnham and that is starting to bore me. I only recently finished season 2 because watching felt like a chore. I've seen the preview for season 3 and I'm now looking at the description for episode 1. Can you guess how it starts? "Arriving 930 years in the future, Burnham navigates..." They should've just named it "Star Trek: Burnham" I also just really don't like her character. My girl dislikes her so much that I can't get her to watch it with me. It's a shame, the first few minutes of the series showed promise but it quickly started a downward spiral and has only worsened. They made an entire series about Starfleets worst officer. An arrogant and undisciplined officer who won't accept anyone's opinion, doesn't follow orders and is prone to unpredictable, emotional and rash behavior.
Let's hope I'm completely wrong and season 3 is great, though I'm not hopeful.
