Laapataa Ladies is an engaging watch, aided in no small part by a stellar, fresh ensemble cast who execute their roles to utmost perfection.
It is a simple plot set in an unassuming agrarian backdrop, with an orthodox familial setup wherein the prevalence of "Ghoonghat" or the ritualistic veil is prevalent. This custom is employed as an important plot device and simultaneously used for comic relief as well.
The director, Kiran Rao, has made a wholesome movie which will hit you right in the feels and champions the case for humanism in a world of decrepit contrivances. She has made use of the creative liberties accorded to her as is her wont and packaged social messaging beneath a fine veneer of exemplary acting performances by the entire cast.
The eponymous ladies are front and centre of the engrossing narrative and the film chugs along merrily, checking all the boxes that make for memorable cinema.
This movie deserves all the plaudits and should be watched by anyone who wants more meaningful films to be made in our country.
