Straight off the bat I will say, this isn't a film that garners the standard reaction of "I did or did not enjoy it."
What I will say is that I am grateful for this film and I am glad I waited to watch this by myself.
I am a 42 year old queer woman with Autism and BPD. This matters to my review as it was actually through a very complex grieving process that I was diagnosed Autistic. I often experience empathy overload and therefore struggle with overly emotional films that really draw you in. I don't like being hit over the head with the emotions of the characters because I become incredibly overwhelmed and either sink into depression or just have to turn the film off. Levy's take on grief however is delivered with a directorial style that is as stylish and relaxed as the cozy jumpers (sweaters) his character Marc, wears in the film.
The characters are diverse and therefore relatable, making it easy to feel included in their close-knit friendship group. (Unless, I suppose you are a cis-white-male, in which case, you'll be right, you have literally every other movie created prior to 2015 to relate to!)
But there's also space for the viewer to think and process the film in their own world and that is something incredibly rare in today's Tik Tok influenced short-form world.
I am so excited to see what the talented younger Levy has in store for the world. xoxo
