Such a beautifully woven tale of hardship and personal growth in modern day USA - I always love BK's commitment to her characters' humanity as well as her painstaking research into place and social history, and this is a brilliant example of her fine craft. I loved 'watching and hearing' 10 year old Demon grow up, boy thinking and lingo and all, into adulthood, even though the process was gut wrenching. The homage to Dickens' is the cherry on top of the cake - very clever in several ways. Another masterpiece by Kingsolver, highly recommended.
