This epic masterpiece has not aged well. By today's sensibilities it is too long, too drawn out, too subdued, too quiet, and contains too little dialogue. The landscape is beautiful but gives the impression that the Holy Land of 2,000 years ago was sparse with very little foliage. The innovation of Judas Iscariot commiting suicide by burning himself alive as a type of Temple sacrifice makes little theological sense.
