Word of advice for watching this anime, keep the expectations reasonable. Don't go into this expecting some life changing, perfect show (like Breaking Bad, or BCS). Go into it expecting a Shonen anime with decent characters and a few really, really good story arcs.
The issue with this show is that, when it's good, it's really, really good. But when it's bad, it's downright unwatchable.
Here's another tip for watching this show. Basically just make it past the exam arc and the tournament arc, then bingo, it becomes significantly better.
A lot of people out there make a lot of claims about this show. A lot of people love it to death, and I'm glad about that because it is a quality show. But don't be fooled, this is not a best of all time pick (IMO) outside of the Shonen genre, and even within said genre, I say FMA/FMAB overtake it.
Enjoyment, I'll give this a 4/5. It drags a bit and has some boring, drawn out arcs.
Story, I'll give the Ca arc 5/5 and the rest 3/5. Pretty self explanatory if you've watched the show.
Characters, I'll give it a 2/5. Sorry, I just didn't enjoy any of the cast except for Leorio.
OST, 2/5.
Fight scenes, 3/5. There are some interesting ones, but the lack of action is annoying.
Overall, 3.75/5
I'd put this right around Re: Zero in terms of quality. It's just shying away from being an excellent show, but it's still a great show.
