This game was a MAJOR step up from Odyssey IMO. I was very worried where the franchise might go after Odyssey, but Valhalla did nothing but keep me pleasantly surprised and entertained in ways Odyssey NEVER could. The world and the characters felt so much more real and had so much depth to them. Even the ones that didn’t have as much depth were still super memorable and got you caring. Gameplay was also much better. Despite the few glitches here and there, and the obviously brutal Viking style combat, there was still so much that felt more like an AC game than Origins and Odyssey. I think that Eivor is a compelling protagonist with very real struggles, and I think that the game did a very good job at telling a story from the Vikings’ perspective. It’s still an AC game, and as such Eivor isn’t your typical Viking who slaughters innocent people, kills for the fun of it, and enslaves everyone. She’s actually much more compassionate than history books say the Vikings were, so fans of Assassin’s Creed and of the Vikings in general can have their cake and eat it too.
