It really interested me. Why would someone make a decision to be locked away in a convent at the age of 21? It's a huge life changing decision. Then to realize after 10 years she'd made a mistake. Then to wait another 18 years before she left! The expectations of nuns in those days had nothing to do with the Will of God....and to be made ignorant of the goings on in the world...I thought the church was supposed to help & pray for people...how can they do that if they don't know what's happening? It's a totally selfish thing to strive for perfection in ourselves by denying one self of life's pleasures....food, companionship, relationship with God. We cannot become perfect, it's impossible. That's where God's grace comes in.....covers a multitude of sins. I guess it was the times.
