This movie wasn’t perfect. Far from it. But it was pretty darn good for a video-game adaption. Maybe up with the best of them (Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog).
The cast nailed the feel really well. The actress who played Chloe (Sophia Ali) was a standout. She looks like her video game counterpart, as well.
As a film, it hits all the right beats. It’s a treasure hunt and it’s a pretty fun one with wonderful set pieces and dangerous traps. At almost 2 hours, it runs a little long. But I’m not entirely sure where I would cut bits if I were editing it. Most of it feels pretty integral to keeping things moving.
I would say it is close to National Treasure in its effectiveness as a film in the treasure-hunt category. Nowhere near the Indiana Jones Trilogy (much better than the 4th), but much better than the likes of Sahara.
