A very powerful story about a murder told from a different angle. A boy who feels ugly and as if he isn’t good at anything, that no girl will ever want him.
On his computer till all hours looking at images of models and making misogynistic comments with his friends. He inhabits a World parents know little about where emojis can have hidden meanings that you find emotionally devastating only to see the person hurting you getting ‘likes’.
Somehow this boy from a loving family unit began to experience rage at an age where he is still driven by impulse. The episode with the psychologist was stunning. Sweet, bright young Jamie trying to be guarded yet unable to hide his rage only to get it back under control had me transfixed. Mocking the psychologist for showing fear to a boy of only 13. The complex emotions overwhelmed him, satisfaction, fear over saying too much, wanting her to like him and anger she wasn’t giving him approval. Part dangerous and menacing, part vulnerable and desperate for approval. We saw a very different Jamie to the sobbing frightened boy surrounded by police in the first episode. It will make parents want to sort the settings out on their computers and so it should. Brilliant acting and brilliant direction. All the actors were brilliant but you can’t help but be impressed with such a young actor in a debut role taking you on such a rollercoaster of his emotions. The Director must have loved him.
