Meh. Poorly explained plot. Skarsgard trying too hard to be evil, but nothing he did made me think he was actually interested in Ellen. The sequences in his castle were laughable. Dafoe, whom I normally love in his roles, again tries too hard to be eccentric and ends up just weird. Many of the sets and costumes were good, but too much cgi overshadowed it all. Loved the 1922 original. Even “Shadow of the Vampire” was a better telling of the tale than this clinker.

I keep trying to understand what I’m missing about “Glass Onion” and “Knives Out.” I get that they’re supposed to be mysteries in the style of Agatha Christie. But they just don’t seem very mysterious, and the characters are almost ludicrous. I don’t expect much reality in this type of story, but a little would go a long way.
