This film intrigued me from the start but it really didnt deliver what it promised. It's just well......boring. The start was intriguing - a man waiting to kill someone but it just went on and on and on and on. Him doing his exercises, him going to McDonalds, him going to sleep, him looking at his fit bit for the 50th time, him brushing his teeth, him listening to the Smiths - I was almost ready to turn it off at that point because literally nothing was happening. This was accompanied by him wanging on in the background about empathy and how he doesnt give a .......etc as if thats meant to be deep and make us admire him or something. Well, I didnt, I was just bored. I kept waiting for the film to ramp up and for something interesting or exciting to happen and it just didnt. It's such a shame as it had some great actors in it but they just werent utilised. All the characters were under developed, emotionless and boring. If you're looking for an exciting thriller starring a hitman, avoid this film, you wont enjoy it. If you're looking for a film about the tediously mundane daily activities of a hitman that have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with killing people then watch it, you'll love it. Its about as interesting as watching beige paint dry.

This film was a was honestly so, so appallingly bad it was almost a comedy. Firstly, the acting from Josh was surprisingly cliched and poor considering he's an experienced actor- they pulled every cliche about violent men out of the film trope hand book- its always their mother that made them do it isnt it? Misogyny at its finest. Dont even get me started on M Night Shyamalan's daughter - I've seen wardrobes that had better acting skills. She had no expression range whatsoever- her fake eyelashes covered her entire face and it was painful to watch. I'm sure she's talented in many genuine ways but acting certainly isnt one of them. The film was way too long, went on and on and on and just got more and more ludicrous as the film stumbled on towards the end. If you want a laugh after a night out at the pub watch this film but dont be expecting anything psychologically challenging or frightening. This is an unintentional comedy film and through that viewing lens it worked very very well.

This film covered an important topic that needs to be highlighted and I really enjoyed the start of it when the tension was being built up. However, it just fell apart once the biker gang arrived at their house. WARNING SPOILERS ahead. Why on earth didnt Paula give them the damn phone?- for goodness sake, if I had just seen someone being shot in front of me, I wouldnt be thinking about anything but just surviving the night. I also dont know that I'd be trying to look through a stranger's phone in the first place considering that the woman who left it with her was part of an aggressive biker gang that had previously tried to run her off the road. It was a good film at the beginning but it just descended into nonsense after the first half. Shame, as the staying at a remote house and then everything goes wrong scenario had so much potential.

I loved this film and thought it was incredible. It reminded me of a movie version of an Edward Hopper painting- loneliness and sadness threaded all the way through it. The phrase "you meet your destiny on the road you take to avoid it" also comes to mind. I thought Kyle Gallner in particular gave a stunningly believable performance as a man struggling with his demons- a psychopath but with a soft belly of vulnerability and trying to "do one good thing". He's strangely likeable even despite his actions and it was very clever how they wove the themes of abuse and regret in the build up to the end scene. Excellent film and very cleverly articulated. It really made me think about the whole issue of taking action and the importance of not settling for a life you don't want, just because you are afraid. Also agree with a previous review that I have never seen a film that has such an inspiring message yet manages to convey that through utter violence- so well done.
