ā Apart from the portrayal of women in the book (which was obvious) , you can't resist but to dive into into the story and do not wanna come back to reality.
For first 40-50 pages the book was going quite slow for me but after that I didn't put it down. I was literally glued to it.
The book has two stories to tell you. One chapter is telling you about Kafka tamura, a 15 year old runaway from home and the next story is telling you a story of 60 year old Nakata who can talk to cats and can predict the fishes falling from sky.
Once you're into the story, you just want to skip the next chapter and want to read the whole story of Kafka in one go and read nakata's story likewise because you don't have patience for next chapter to finish to read about kafka once again.
But somewhere you know that these stories are going to get mixed at one point and you just keep reading the book as it is. Trust me, it tests your patience.
ā If you want to explore 'magical realism' but don't know where to start with, THIS IS THE BOOK YOU SHOULD PICK RN! It's a very unique book, I had never read anything like this before. The whole book is actually a riddle. A very interesting one. You get the answers to all your questions slowly as the story goes on but along with those answers you get more puzzles to solve.
ā I'm obviously not going to talk about the female characters from the book because before reading any murakami book you absolutely know that the feminist inside you is going to regret this read. But you still go and read it. Because you know that you feel warm there, being wrapped by his books. š
