I really liked Tails and Robotnik’s levels where you are in a robot that shoots all the other robots. It was action-packed and had pretty fast shooting. The game had some decent, colorful graphics, and was relatively nice to look at. The best part was of course, the Chao Garden. While raising the Chao was interesting to do, I wish you could keep more Chao in one garden, give the Chao >7 letter names, and see other stats that are hidden by default.
That said, the game suffers from a few issues that almost made me break the game in half! The camera is uncooperative, as it doesn’t stay where you rotated it when you start moving. To me, the worst part of the game is the four extra missions for each level. They’re repetitive, unfair, and/or unforgiving. Collecting 100 rings is sometimes a serious migraine as you can lose them all at any moment, especially when it’s not your fault (I know, it’s a fundamental of Sonic). The “don’t hit the walls” and “don’t hit other cars” mission are horrible because if you suck at driving games like me, you can’t help but hit the walls or other cars a couple times. In this case, you start over. The music is generic and not all that great to listen to on a 90 second loop, but is tolerable. Overall, I’ve enjoyed the game and had some fond memories, but it had a couple bigger issues that distract from it.
