Mel Gibsons interpretation was widely considered " Graphic, Violent & Brutal which are all the elements of a horror show; which it was; & so is the Carpenters son. Our interest in the story lies in Jesus as human & a conduit of God, so altho we do suffer being human, we inherit a part of Gods fortune: everlasting life. Anyway; if being human is being born to suffer at some point, we are desparate for a way to cope with it. Cage is known for his quirkiness & a flare for dark humor. I've always thought that was missing in Jesus's story. Knowing whats to come as a child of God & being a human gave him a freedom to juggle both realities which has a scifi element as well. I think that the Carpenters son can free us up to expand our human connection to the story without religious restrictions.
