It's not good...but let's not lay all the blame on JJ. The Force Awakens was good, not great, but it did set up a lot that looked like it would pay off. A new main villain, Luke and so on. Then came The Last Jedi which basically crapped on all the set-up and went for "I am original, I am different, I am edgy" approach and screwed everything up. Now Disney and JJ had to do damage control, so in their eyes, they just thought "hey, we know what they like and what they loved from the past, let's just cram all of that into a film and no one will care about the story and script" and that is what we got. Not saying the trilogy would have been amazing, but they should have let JJ do all 3 films, at least they would have gelled and made more sense. On a plus side, people like 1990s/2000s films more now.
