I honestly don’t know what went wrong with Nightreign. As someone who’s been playing Soulslike games for years, I was genuinely excited—but this just isn’t it.
Trying to play solo? It’s borderline punishing. You die once, and that’s it—progress gone, no revives, no second chances. It turns what should be a rewarding experience into a frustrating grind.
Multiplayer doesn’t help much either. It’s chaotic and disjointed. My friends and I constantly lose each other and end up fumbling around with the map just to regroup. Instead of feeling like an epic shared journey, it becomes a constant back-and-forth that kills the pacing.
And why on earth isn’t there a minimap? Especially on PS5, where UI improvements should be standard by now, it feels like a glaring omission. A simple on-screen navigation tool could have saved so much time and kept players focused on the world—not the menus.
The atmosphere’s still rich, sure. But gameplay-wise? Nightreign feels like it missed the mark by trying too hard without listening to what solo and co-op players actually need. It’s more exhausting than exhilarating.
