Career Opportunities is a must watch if you are a fan of eighties or nineties movies. It’s a capturing fun, comedy romantic with cinematography truly ahead of its time.
It stars Frank Whaley playing the role of 22-year-old Jim Doge, a young adult who has a hard time from his father due to getting fired from any job he takes on and struggles to find a new job in his small town while also trying to perceive a highflying and wealthy life to the local town kids who seemingly look up to him.
Frank Whaley’s co-star is Jennifer Connelly who takes on the role of Josie McClellan, a young woman the same age who seems to be lost in life with a wealthy overbearing father who, she does care for, but wants to escape from and start a new life with someone to be truly happy.
Career Opportunities has fantastic acting from all actors, with a great plot that some may argue ended too abruptly in the final chapter of the movie and that some parts were too drawn out.
However, for a running time of 1 hour and 23 minutes I feel that it keeps you hooked in throughout and doesn’t leave you with the feeling of wanting to pick up your phone at any point- instead some roller-skates.
