For those who happen to have read The End of Eternity by Isaac Asimov will easily see a connection with this movie. The protagonist in the book had elected to unmake Eternity, a time-traveling organization that kept the human race under their eternal control (for the greater good, indeed). The act of destroying Eternity gave way to Infinity (uncertain path into the future). On the contrary, the protagonists in this movie are that sort of people who would build Eternity in the first place and maintain it until the end of time.
For not SciFi sophisticated crowd, this movie is a direct call for the elimination of the freedom of speech and self-indulgence of mass political violence (the creators of this movie can easily justify it as preemptive).
