I have never been that much of a sports fan, but after watching the Ted Lasso series, I became interested in soccer/football and decided to check out Welcome to Wrexham. I am a fan of both Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny, and I thought it could be entertaining. What I discovered was beyond all expectation. First, it's fun watching soccer through the eyes of Americans who are almost as clueless (at first) as I am. But even more heartwarming is the way the series digs into the meaning of the local football club to the town that has seen its share of hardships. It follows a few fans whose lives are wound around the club and who are inspired by the team's push for excellence. And it brings in the women's club, showing their incredible excellence, equal if not better than the more high profile men's club. But this is not competition between the teams, but more cooperation and mutual respect. This is such a fun documentary, worthy of awards and high viewing rates.
