The second star is for the promising first episode, but do not be fooled: it ends in a contemptible train wreck of unsatisfying soap opera drama three episodes later. Competent performances by several actors can't rescue this mystery from itself with the blame lying squarely on the writers who made some bizarre and regrettable choices. There's naught to root for here. Even the villainy offers little in the way of guilty pleasure.

There are several scenes in this film that are such comedy gold that it more than makes up for where it otherwise might drag a bit.
