Toms review on here is god awful, brother and his girlfriend did not watch the movie or understand....I saw this with my dad after watching the last two back to back....if you know the actors, producers, and how they like to put out their messages, you'll understand that there's an artistic view and a reason for everything we are seeing, messages are not always stated.
*Spoilers*
People are complaining on what the point of bringing a 12 year old to quarantined island...The movie mentions that 15 is usually the age, the ceremony after showing that they on their island and community honor a kid becoming a man with their first kill, right of passage. The kids on the island learning archery in case they need to defend the island when older which isn't said but quite easily a thing you can interpret, as a bunch of scenes of medieval archers taking aim burn over the movie there is a layer of confusion and question where you can bring your own insight in.....another issue people are having is that the mom let her and her son go on a journey when she knew what was wrong with her the whole time...The kid started a fire and distracted the island, while the mom was going through own state of unwellness and not knowing where she was going, she had no idea it was going to the island, let alone she discussed her fear of telling her kid she had cancer, her going in and out of phases where she thinks her child is her dad taking care of her, it's wild for people to say she so clearly could've told her kid. While he death was beautiful in its own way, people have an issue with the son showing no remorse when he's handed his mother's skull.....the kids drugged up, he got hit by morphine after freaking out, the morphine can put down an alpha zombie with 2-3 shots or so, yeah the kids gonna be feeling out of body and not pouring tears when he's placing his mom's skull down.
I personally loved this movie so much. It touches up on the concept of Alpha zombies that had started with Don in 28 weeks later, explore some infected mutating and surviving by eating worms, I feel as though if you are expecting a standard outbreak zombie movie, you'll be greatly disappointed, if you are expecting a film that carries artistic values and leaves you with questions and excited to watch the next movie coming out, then it's up your alley. I've been personally tired of wash and rinse zombie movies where someone saves the day, or they mow down zombies like crazy, give me the risky and innovative outlook that has always been the 28 franchise.
