Coming 2 America has too many stories vying for interest, none commanding much, if any. Superfluous musical guests - I liked Salt n Pepa (or was it Peppa? I can’t remember) back in the day, but the performance felt awkwardly shoved into a movie in which it didn’t belong, as did the other musical bits.
The old one was funny and heartwarming and moved right along. The new one is just a mess, with some things that seem as if they will be interesting, then aren’t. Herky-jerky. Kinda boring.
Wesley Snipes from Nexdoria (which is an excellent name, lol) was good as a sort of upbeat Idi Amin-y kind of guy, then suddenly he is just a doofus and that storyline is over without finishing.
I don’t care about Eddie Murphy’s son. I wanted to...I started to...but in the end I just didn’t. I literally smiled when Akeem married his love and I was just waiting for it to be over when the son did. And OH, I do not care about (or for!) his annoying, obnoxious mother.
I care about Akeem and Semi and LISA! It was exciting to see Lisa (and her Dad), but we get not enough of the characters we know and love and way too much of the annoying stuff.
Too much, too little, too forced.
