I probably should have known this was a family faith movie from the title, but I didn’t think about it. It’s about a boring, sniveling white dude that does absolutely nothing but have a change of heart and gets celebrated relentlessly for it. The queer baiting is what really pissed me off though. The love interest first tells him that she’s a lesbian, and then a kid guesses that she isn’t, and apparently she told him that so he wouldn’t hit on her. That’s not a meet cute, and as far as I’m concerned it’s just another instance of Christian people trivializing queer peoples struggle.
Weather it’s intentionally anti LGBT (etc.) or not, this movie totally plays into the problematic myth that women shouldn’t be believed when they say they’re lesbians. It also implies that the female lead is to femme to be a lesbian. I know plenty of people who try really hard to be both LGBT or allies and still be religious. I think this movie detracts from that all for a stupid plot twist.
