At first I was very excited for this show, I loved the high republic books and have been waiting for a high republic/old republic live action movie or series for almost two decades now and it saddens me to report that this show is lackluster and lore breaking.
Although it would be easy to pick apart the series for its obvious political biases and lack of effort to conceal said biases: this will not factor into my review.
For me where the series fails is its lack of story telling, and it’s blatant disregard for current canon. This series takes place approximately 100 years before The Phantom Menace and with this timeframe the Sith Lord in question should obviously be Darth Pleagus’s master, Darth Tiniberus, who is an alien species known as a bith. The Sith Lord in the show is obviously not a bith as you can blatantly see that the head is not the right shape or size. Moreover, both Yoda and Yaddle are alive during this timeline and couldn’t possibly be unaware of the presence of the sith as they were in The Phantom Menace. Another discrepancy that I did not enjoy was how two witches were able to create life using the force (like a pleagus, a fully realized Sith master could) but with such proficiency that they managed to make twins. based off the abilities of the twins, it can be assumed that they are a dyad in the force like kylo and Rey. To me, this takes away the importance of Anakin Skywalkers origin and his character arc as the chosen one. Mind you that all of this has happened within the span of three episodes…
Moreover, besides Master Sol, the characters are lackluster, boring, and overall unrelatable. It’s hard to be invested in the deaths of these characters when I don’t know anything about them to care about there death, and the ones you do get to see glimpses of their lives are unrelatable to the point that their deaths have little to no impact. I could rant on for longer however I doubt many will read this far and many who have will dismiss my critics claiming that I’m not a true Star Wars fan or that I have some form of bigotry based biases clouding my judgment. In summation, as a life long Star Wars fan who has been waiting for this series for over two decades, I’m extremely disappointed and would not recommend watching this show if you enjoy the lore and deep story telling associated with this once great franchise
