I am very late to the party, but I just started watching the show, and am on season 1. I have enjoyed it up until the episode with the crab dish. I think that asking a Hindu person to create a dish that goes against her religion is in VERY poor taste (pun intended). I realize that Ramsay offered to place the crab in the pot for her, but I feel that she was unfairly pressured to kill an animal, against her beliefs by the fact that she knew she was on TV. She even said she didn’t want to be on camera.
It should be the job of the judges and the producers to make sure that there are no ethical, religious, or health issues with the dishes that they require the participants to prepare and/or eat. Asking a Hindu to kill and prepare a living animal, or Jewish person who keeps Koser to eat a dish that contains both dairy and meat, or a person who is allergic to nuts to prepare or eat a dish with nuts is simply WRONG.
For those trolls who I know will say “well, it’s their choice to participate in the show.” First of all, it was obvious in this situation that there was no preparation or notification of the contestants that they may be required to prepare live animals beforehand, in auditioning or accepting a place on the show. Second of all, no one should be prevented from participating in the show based on color, sex, disability, health condition (such as allergy) or religious belief.
