A fair assessment of the narrow-minded if not myopic reasoning brought forth by chief investigators who were clearly in over their heads. This was really driven home during a recollection of one of the junior investigators who wanted to pursue a possible suspect (who turned out to be the actual killer) early on, only to be berated and thrown out of his superior's office because the suspect did not match some preconceived notion of who "The Ripper" should be. The killer was ultimately interviewed at least 9 times by authorities but was ruled out each time, eventually being brought to justice by pure luck and the quick thinking of an average beat cop.
