The perfect period movie of the late 30's and early 40's. Stella Parish is a woman of mystery and secrets. She becomes a famous English actress with a promising career. Suddenly a mysterious visitor from the past forces her to flee with her young daughter to America in attempt to "hide with all the other mothers there" those secrets which she does not want exposed. Ian Hunter, an American reporter is out to find her secrets and expose them to an interested American public. In the process of his investigation of her past he falls in love with both her and her daughter. Getting to know her, he learns that her story although true and raw, there is a personal side where innocience lies and some secrets need to be kept in the shadows. Unfortunately, the story is revealed and her secrets all public to a perversive society, to everyone including her young daugher who she must protect from these secrets. The story has many twists and turns, but in the end shines with rainbows and "Happy Endings." I thought the movie kept my interest and was not blunted with too much melodrama to ruin the script and keep the story interesting and flowing.
