This pertains to the UK version. While the Gallagher and McGuire families are incredibly dysfunctional, they love each other and do their best to stick together. It’s not easy and I must admit that I’m not fond of Monica Gallagher, the mother who continually walks out on her family. But the children are resourceful and tough. The McGuires are the violent, drug dealing neighbours who also have a certain appeal due to their individual quirks. I love the emotion the show engenders and the belief that blood is thicker than water.
