One of the great motion pictures of the 20th century. Judy Garland was ROBBED of the Best Supporting Actress award - she is heartbreaking in this film. Spencer Tracy is always the best, but Max Schell won the best actor award. Finally, this is the film where Burt Lancaster (arguably) best portrays a nearly broken human being who deserves no pity, yet he is pitiable. Watch this film - you won't be sorry - but be aware that there are 8 minutes of video from Dachau and Bergin-Belsen. I cannot watch that without weeping and nightmares...
