I felt that overall the film Arrival was not worth watching do to it's overall lack of plot and accomplishment, plus it's one dimensional main character. Before I get into the mound of bad things about the film, it's important to address the good. I thought that the original concept of decoding an alien language was interesting and the character In had some likeability to him. Also the design of the aliens looked pretty cool. Now onto the negatives about the film. To explain, the entire plot and conflict of aliens arriving on Earth ended up achieving nothing and has a lackluster conclusion that felt completely disconnected from aliens arriving on Earth in the first place, and also had nothing to do with the first 90% of this movie which originally had a cool concept of decoding the alien language. Instead, it turned into a very boring time travel movie where the solution was practically given on a silver platter to the main character with their entire efforts throughout the rest of the film doing nothing to help achieve their goal. The lack of a plot is the main issue with this movie. The second being that the main character has no personality and is not likeable in the slightest other than that she is smart and can talk with aliens. Nothing against the actress who plays the main character because when given a garbage script, there is not a lot one can do to make your character likeable. She spoke in a monotone voice through out the entire film, with not an ounce of character development and if Ian wasn't there in the film, there would have been no one with at least half a personality in the entire movie. This movie tries to use big sciencey words in attempt to make the plot sound smart to try to cover up that there is absolutely no plot to this Film. Not worth the watch, unless you are looking for something to help you fall asleep.
