Look, as a game it's a good game mechanically. I won't spoil anything directly.
The plot however is a hot mess. There's a ton of plot holes as to how events unfold throughout story or why characters do things that make no sense. The plot sets up reasons things can't happen a certain way or why characters shouldn't be able to use an ability only to contradict that premise for the sake of spectacle later.
While the idea of the "active time lore" feature is a good one it's a poor excuse for bad plot and character development. There are a number of times where context is only given this way when a character is introduced. In my opinion this feature should be used to round out information not to supplement a lack of information in gameplay itself.
I kept forging ahead and each time a weird plot choice was made, or an inconsistency popped up I persevered. And now that I'm finished I'm just pissed. And to top it off if I want to round out my achievements it looks like I'll have to devote more time to a second playthrough of this incoherent plot hole riddled mess.
At least the first half of the game was good, but the back half is rough. Wouldn't recommend buying it if you're not a final fantasy fan.
